Missive from parts of Africa

A light hearted and sometimes serious look at moving 6000km into a place in Africa: April 2007. Promoted back to South Africa, the missive will continue to track my foray's into deepest Africa as and when I get there.

A party! Pressies !!! and a weeks delay!!!!!!

Another update, which means another week has started with me still in the good old R S of A. This despite the farewell party which was held at my place on Saturday the 19th.

Twas good to catch up with more then a few people I had not seen in a while - Gawd!!! does that mean I have to leave the country before they come over to visit???? - and Nessers arranged a huge suprise by inviting Carrie over, who I had not seen in almost two years.

The underwear made an appearance on the fan again, much to my delight and a little bit of humour. I must admit I have now realised that I cannot put a "face" to the undies!!! The joys of old age huh!

Reasonable amounts of booze was supped and I must admit I did not beleive I drank too much. This belief was called to severe question the next morning when the hangover spoke to me. *sigh*

I do however recall the evening ending with Pern and Nessers dancing - Pern was teaching Nessers latin, but it was good Girl on Girl stuff as far as I was concerned. Rocky took over 40 pics of the two of them together, which now have a place of pride on my puter to be revisited as often as possible.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! and I got pressies.
Black Label Captain Morgan and a *really* nice bottle of wine
Windchimes for my new place (Hop(pi)Ness)
Gift Voucher
Spiritual Book
and...........
Pern and Rocky gave me a stunning arty pic of Pern

Spoilt bugger I am

And.... when Nessers saw how good Rocky is with the camera, she arranged a photoshoot for the weekend to give me an arty shot as well. All mine that I have have Hustler as inspiration. *blush*

Well a week ahead of no public holidays, no training or any other breaks. Ergo: I am gonna do a FULL weeks work!!!

Whooo hoooo.

Which reminds me:

The comms in Ghana are not yet completed and once again, my departure date has been pushed out until the 5th of July!!

Another week to partake in decandent debauchery and such like......

Time Time Time - and departure dates

Happiness is a wet pussy!! - Now that I have your attention herewith my updated Blog for the week.

A public holiday in the middle of the week is always a load of fun, and accordingly I chilled and got quietly ratted in the evening with a very good friend.

Managing to do a fair amount of accounting stuff at work which is keeping me out of mischief, and as luck would have it I have another day of training tomorrow (yeah yeah it is still classified as work). Still battling with the wonders of JDEdwards and the fact that printing a document could take as long as 4 hours to be processed via the server at a remote site.

Still not 100% sure when I am leaving - but the brain is still bent around the 28th of this month. Will be reasonably sure once I have an airticket in my ugly mitts. I also need a visa which is "under process" and have worked out that afore I depart the good old RS of A I will also need to make sure I have a place to stay.

Having Lisa back is stunning, and she goes back to Monash full time from the 19th July to get back on track with her studies. Back to the CA(SA) for her (and varisty fees which will severly dent my savings plan). You gotta love the kiddies.

Other then that - Life goes on - which is always good cause the alternative is a bit of a let down.

Have a Hoppy One

New Job, Internet access and Bloody Hell - Why so many injections

Well the new job was duly started on 01.06 and after a few days induction (see what happens when you work for a big company -it entailed a few days of many people telling you all about what they do and who does it). I now go for a week's training on the new accounting software and then one assumes I start some real work.

I still do not have internet access at the office and although I bought my own laptop , I did not think it was a good plan to 'take a look' at their firewalls on my first week. I will live with whatever access I get and use it accordingly. *note to self* "you are not allowed to fight with the firewall for access" (repeat often).

On my first post in this blog you will recall I sent an email to ISP's in Tarkwa and finally got a response.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The officer in charge was indisposed for a while.

We have internet connectivity in Tarkwa. The option we have now is ISDN lease line solution with minimum bandwidth of 64Kbps on a shared network.

There is a Set-up charge of $3,500.00 and the monthly charge is $500.00. These prices are exclusive of 12.5% VAT chargeable in Ghana. This is a turn-key solution which means InternetGHANA will provide all equipment needed for the installation.

Kindly revert for any further clarifications you might require

I think they have got the numbers wrong - fark!!!! I assume they have the numbers wrong.....

Anyways - an email toddles off to africaonline to see if their costs are more in line with my country allowance.

More home news is my daughter has broken up with her b/f and has decided that the UK is too far from home (and regular funds). She returns on Thursday. You should see the HUGE smile on dad's face *chuckle* She canna cook either so starvation still is a huge danger for those at the house once I get into the bush.

In finality:

I toodled off to the company clinic (yeah they have their own clinic) for my innoculations and what turned out to be a full medical as well..... I have ALREADY had my prostate checked this year!!!!!. Luckily it was not that detailed and after been given muti for Polio (they are oral drops and taste awful!!) Tetanus, yellow feaver, Hepatitus, cholera and some other strange water bourne lurgi, I am in a position to enter the final third of my trip planning!

Soooooooo...... HUGE farewell planned for the 19th June at my place - bring booze and underware!!!!!!!!
